These Paddle Testers have Tryptone Glucose Extract Agar with TTC on one side, and Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (Emmons) with Rose Bengal on the other. Tryptone Glucose Extract Agar is used for the enumeration of total aerobic bacteria. TTC stains most colonies for easy counting. Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is a selective medium that allows Yeast and Fungi to grow. This version has specific adjustments to pH and dextrose concentration to enhance the recovery of certain fungi by adjusting the pH to a more neutral level. This agar inhibits bacterial growth. Smooth colonies indicate yeast; filamentous/fuzzy colonies indicate mold.

Please note: Paddle testers are semi-quantitative, and are used to evaluate microbial contamination by measuring colony-forming units (CFUs) that form on the agar surface after dipping in liquid, or contacting surfaces.
They provide a simple, on-site means of estimating microbial load changes over time, verifying any control measures that are in place are sufficient, and allowing appropriate actions to be taken if needed.

Paddle testers are NOT a quantitative microbiological test method.
